Frequently Asked Questions

General

Is ScioLink just a proctoring app?

ScioLink offers much more. It enables you to take comprehensive online entrance exams. We will prepare the tests, organize the testing, set up a proctoring check and evaluate the tests in the application.

Can I connect ScioLink to our school Learning Management System (LMS)?

I can't do it directly at the moment. However, we can import test questions from other systems, e.g. Moodle.

What type of testing is ScioLink suitable for?

We developed ScioLink primarily for high-stakes tests where regularity control is essential. Thus, thanks to proctoring, ScioLink excels most in entrance exams. However, it is also very useful for low-stakes exams, OHS testing or language testing. ScioLink offers great flexibility - it allows you to prepare exams from different types of tasks, use video or audio demonstrations, set different rules for going through the test, randomly mix the order of answers or the possibility to return to the previous question.

Can ScioLink be used outside the university environment?

Yes. You can apply it to any standardized testing system. The range is unlimited - professional certifications, industry tests, HR agenda, language exams, etc.

Is the online exam comparable to the face-to-face exam?

Yes. We have successfully run tens of thousands of high-stakes trials online and performed psychometric analyses. Some participants prefer the online environment, others prefer the face-to-face format. Thus, on an individual level, participants' results may differ, but from the perspective of the group as a whole, the differences are statistically insignificant.

What if the test subject's internet connection goes down?

Internet outage does not affect the ScioLink exam. During a two-hour exam, a short-term outage will affect a significant percentage of participants. In conventional LMS and proctoring applications, this can disrupt data integrity, but ScioLink continuously stores unsubmitted data in the web browser memory during the exam - even during an internet outage. When the connection is restored, the data is securely uploaded to the server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Test regularity

Does artificial intelligence (AI) determine the regularity of the exam?

Artificial intelligence algorithms are only an aid in ScioLink. They make it easier for human evaluators to detect non-standard moments during the exam. The AI never makes the final verdict. The exam is always evaluated by a trained specialist. Up to three independent human evaluators are involved.

How common is cheating during online exams?

In our experience, less than 1% of those tested cheat. More often, unintentional violations occur - for example, the examinee fails to properly show his room and desk top on the webcam.

How do I set the rules for the online exam?

We always tailor them to each test and base them on the requirements you set. We will recommend best practices, such as mandatory identification of examinees or room scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions

The course of cooperation

How is the cooperation with the ScioLink team going?

First, we agree on the scope and dates of the tests. After the contract is signed, you will give us a list of examinees and tests. Together we will set the rules of the online exam to ensure fairness and transparency. Then it's up to us. We will contact the participants, give them all the information about the exam process and conditions and send them invitations. A few days before the exam, the participants will undergo a so-called mandatory device check, during which they will try out ScioLink for real. After the exam, we will process the results - this is a two-round evaluation of the records by human evaluators assisted by artificial intelligence. A trained assessor will always decide on the regularity. You will receive the complete results, including the decision on the regularity of the exam, within 3-7 days.

What to do when candidates write to us with questions?

We will prepare answers to FAQs for you, but you can direct any questions to us. We will answer them promptly. Our customer support is available to candidates during the cooperation.

Can we see the records of the examinees ourselves?

We do not normally do this to maintain the security of applicants' personal data. However, if a particular person is recalled, we will make their exam record available to you in secure mode on request. In general, we minimise the range of people with access to records - only trained staff work with them. And we only keep records for as long as necessary, which we will jointly set out in the contract.

Do you comply with the GDPR?

We as Scio act as the data processor, you are the data controller. All handling of personal data will be regulated in a cooperation agreement that we will conclude together. We follow strict principles: candidates give their consent to the processing of their personal data before the exam, our trained staff, whose circle is as small as possible, work with the exam records, and we only keep the exam records for as long as necessary to process the results.

Do you collect biometric data from applicants?

No. In our view, this is an unjustified interference with the rights of the applicants.

Who all has access to the records?

The number of people with access to the records is limited. Normally, the examination is marked by two independent persons. Only units of Scio staff have access to all records to ensure the technical operation of the system.

What data do you collect on applicants?

We collect only the minimum data necessary to evaluate the regularity of the exam - (1) data to identify the candidate such as name, surname, photograph, and date of birth, (2) video and audio recordings of the exam, (3) video recordings of activities on the candidate's desktop, and (4) data about running processes on the candidate's computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Accessibility

Jaké jsou technické nároky ScioLinku?

The hardware requirement is low and, in our experience, almost everyone can meet it. In practice, this means:
  • Operating system: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (x64 only); macOS Sierra 10.12 (or newer),
  • internet connectivity (8 Mb/s download, 1 Mb/s upload),
  • Processor dual-core 2.0 GHz or better, At least 8GB of RAM,
  • At least 2GB free space on your hard drive (in case of an internet connection loss),
  • Internet browser: only Google Chrome latest version (with allowed cookies, JavaScript and HTML5),
  • S 1024×768 px,‍
  • Webcam (resolution at least 480×360 px) and a microphone (built-in or external).

Will applicants meet the hardware requirements above?

This is not a problem for most applicants. These technical parameters are met by commonly available computers.

Why is it only possible to take the exam in Google Chrome?

Our remote monitoring solution uses features only available in Google Chrome.
